Why DnD blocks your call box

Your call box opens your gate by calling your phone — just like any other caller. When Do Not Disturb is on, your phone silences all incoming calls unless you've specifically added them to your exceptions list.

The call box doesn't know it's being silenced. It dials your number, your phone receives the call silently, times out after 20-30 seconds, and the gate stays closed. The delivery driver moves on. You get a missed call notification sometime later and wonder what happened.

The partial fix — adding your call box as a DnD exception

Android's Do Not Disturb settings let you create exceptions for specific contacts or numbers. If you add your call box number to your contacts and mark it as a favorite or exception, DnD will let it ring through.

Here's how to do it on Android:

1. Save your call box number in your contacts — name it something like "Front Gate"
2. Go to Settings → Sound → Do Not Disturb
3. Tap Exceptions or Allow exceptions
4. Enable Calls from contacts or add the specific number
5. Make sure "Front Gate" is in the allowed list

This works — but it's only a partial fix. Your phone will now ring when the call box calls, but you still have to answer it manually and press 9 to open the gate. If you're asleep, in a meeting, or away from your phone, you'll still miss it.
